Student Senate Reaffirms the Creation of a Faculty Tardiness Rule

Ever had a teacher show up late to class, leaving you sitting there wasting your time? Students are expected to arrive on time for classes, faculty should be held to the same standard. This is why Student Senate has reaffirmed their support for the creation of a Faculty Tardiness Rule.

On Tuesday, October 27th, 2015 Student Senate passed this legislation with a vote of 40-8. This bill states that the University should create a policy that if a faculty member does not arrive within 20 minutes of the class period start time, then class is cancelled. Students are under the impression that if a professor does not show up within the first 15 minutes of the class’ start time, the students are free to leave. However, there is no rule in the student handbook that states this rule or anything similar, meaning student can be penalized for leaving if the teacher is late. This Faculty Tardiness Rule will hold faculty more accountable for their tardiness.

Associated Student Government supports the creation of a Faculty Tardiness Rule and will work to see it implemented.
