Joey Parizek is a Senior Finance major from Dublin, Ohio. He plays club hockey, is a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity, and frequently buys the “dank and eggs” from bagel and deli. While he looks like a seemingly normal guy, some may also know him as our Student Body President! He was elected in the Spring and is serving his term in the 2015-2016 school year.
Joey’s campaigns brought light to many issues and ideas that he wants to accomplish in his term including the Tuition Guarantee, Meal Plan Reform, Mental Health Awareness and Alcohol Sales in Goggin. So far, he is making great strides in bringing those ideas to life with the help of Student Senate and his Executive Cabinet.
When asked why he initially wanted to be the Student Body President, Joey said “I wanted to challenge myself personally and saw this position as a unique opportunity to make a huge difference on campus and also a huge personal growth opportunity to build leadership skills. The ability to help ensure that all students have the same great experience that I have had was also something that made me want to pursue the position. Before I graduate, If I could leave this campus an overall more innovative, inclusive, student-focused and accessible place than before, I would be happy. If I can help ASG accomplish all or most of our goals this year, I think that would be a cool mark to leave on Miami in my term as president.”
Here are a few more things about Joey:
Why did you choose to attend Miami University? “Great business school, such a beautiful campus, good club hockey team, and it had the work-hard play hard mentality I was looking for.”
Favorite Place to Study on Campus? He doesn’t want to give away his spot, but says that it is in the back right corner in a part of King Library.
What else would he like the student body to know about him? “I'm a huge heart to heart guy. I view myself as an extremely normal and approachable Miami student. I love talking to people about new ideas, current topics of debate and just life in general. Never hesitate to shoot me an email or call if you want to talk about literally anything.”
