The Student Body President election season is upon us! Student Body President is the highest and most prestigious position a student can hold as an undergraduate. The President acts as the official representative of the student body and is vested with the executive power of Associated Student Government. With the position comes great responsibility, but also great opportunity. The Student Body President has the opportunity to make a positive change on this campus and act as a student voice to administration. Although one holds this prestigious position, they are still another normal Miami University student, walking the same halls as the students they represent. Student Body President is a significant commitment and admired position, but more importantly it is a position that wields great power to leave a positive mark on this campus. Joey Parizek, the outgoing president, when asked why he chose to run for the position, said “I wanted to run for Student Body President to challenge myself personally and saw this position as a unique opportunity to make a huge difference on campus. I also saw it as a huge personal growth opportunity to build leadership skills. The ability to help ensure that all students have the same great experience that I have had was also something that made me want to pursue the position. Before I graduate, if I could leave this campus an overall more innovative, inclusive, student-focused and accessible place than before, I would be happy. If I can help ASG accomplish all or most of our goals this year, I think that would be a cool mark to leave on Miami in my term as president.” Joey, during elections last year, came up with a platform of what he wanted to do in his tenure as President. Some of his main goals included the Tuition Guarantee, Meal Plan Reform, Mental Health Awareness and Alcohol Sales in Goggin. Although his term is coming to an end, Joey and the whole body of Associated Student Government is excited and confident that his successor will continue serving the student body to their fullest potential.
